UNITY London City Island Gallery

01 February - 01 March 2018

‘Unity’ is a group exhibition of 30 artists from London City Island, Arebyte Gallery and Trinity Buoy Wharf, and it looks at the importance of inclusivity and diversity in East London community.

Much of London’s recent growth is due to international inward migration, which partially counterbalances the numbers of mostly British-born households leaving the city. 95% of those moving to London since 1995 were born outside the UK. Nearly a third of London’s residents are from non-white minority ethnic communities.

Concentrations are found in three regions: south of the River Thames in Lambeth, Southwark and Croydon; along a corridor from the East End to East Ham; and to the west and north-west. In some areas, ethnic minorities make up over half the population. We stand behind the idea that geographical, cultural, professional, gender, and ability diversity contributes to the generation of ideas, innovative and different perspectives, and the added value that allows us to learn from each other. Collective action is the framework through which we can achieve change at a systems level.

‘Unity’ will be open to visit between the dates 01.02.2018 – 01.03.2018 at London City Island Gallery, and it’s curated by Art Elsewhere.
